Charcoal has at least 5000 years’ history since it was discovered and it is in 1920s when Henry Ford figured out the process of making charcoal briquettes (original charcoal making machine). In the old days, before propane gas is widely applied for stoves, charcoal briquettes were used as the main heating product for warming, cooking and barbecuing, especially outdoor grilling. Till now, there are also amount of people who prefer charcoal briquettes than propane gas since they believe that charcoal briquettes makes barbecue with better tastes and it is more authentic “barbecue.”
Henry Ford is known for his automobile manufacturing and charcoal briquettes were created for his car factory initially. Ford found charcoal briquettes are smoke free when burning. Then, E.G. Kingsford bought his invention and made charcoal briquette a commercial production. To begin with, charcoal briquettes were applied for heating in stoves and gets popular in outdoor cooking (BBQ) later on. Wood burn slowly, cool slowly and leaving charcoal which easily caught fire when used in barbecuing. The transformation from basic charcoal to charcoal briquettes largely benefits from continuous burning method which is developed by Orin Stafford.
